I know that on 4 January 1954 we had the highest water level and that was 2,60 meters. And it was always discussed with the regulatory agency that we would have to do something about it but we were only talking.
And then we got a new mayor... 1986 and with him we also talked about this issue. And at some point he picked it up and - together with Scharbeutz [neighbor town] we tackled the issue - first concepts and workshops, making suggestions, drawing circles on walls... Everyone thought they would have to add one's two cents. They did not really have any clue, but I guess it had to be that way to keep the process going. And it did take quite a few years, we started at the beginning of the 90s and now it is ready.
I knew that we had to do something and so did many others.
