Coastal Manager
Belgium

"There are several plans that can be put in place and also on different levels. If it is only a local event or emergency that occurs, then the town itself will take care of the situation and organize the evacuation. In case of flooding due to storms, then the responsible province will execute their emergency plan. They, the Coastal Division, have distributed maps of all these risks and there is also a person responsible for disaster management. At an early stage all this communication to the municipalities and the province was done by the Flemish Government. They are well informed about the outcome of  the flood risk calculations for  the Masterplan Coastal Safety and have a pretty good idea of the weak spots along the coast. They know on they can plan beforehand how to organize the evacuation of certain areas in case of a disaster."
